SAEINDIA is India’s leading resource for mobility technology. As an individual member driven society of mobility practitioners the ownership of SAEINDIA wrests with its members who are Individuals from the mobility community, which includes Engineers Executives from Industry, Government Officials, Academics and Students. Founded in 1994. Our Automobile Engineering department conducts various events and activities under the sponsorship of SAEINDIA.

The Society of Automotive Engineers (SAE) SSMIET Collegiate Club has been functioning successfully, since 2013 in our college. Presently, the club has around 150 members from various departments.

Focused On:

All efforts are on now with a single minded purpose to propel the automotive engineering profession by focusing on three trends occurring in the automotive industry today that affect all automotive engineers and engineering societies.

  • The first of these trends is simultaneous engineering the integration of the roles of design engineer, manufacturing engineer, supplier, marketer, and planner.
  • The second trend is the increased reliance of auto manufacturers on suppliers and design houses to support the design and manufacturing functions.
  • The third factor crucial to an internationalized auto industry is standards as communication, as a basis for regulation, and as an aid to interchangeability.


Inauguration of SAEINDIA SSMIET Collegiate Club

The Inauguration SAEINDIA SSMIET Collegiate Club association on 12th August – 2013 by Mr. B. Kannan, SKBR Auto Pvt Ltd. Madurai, along with Mr. K. Shanmugavel, Executive Director, Dr. R. Chandran, Campus Director set the backdrop for the club by lightening the lamp. Dr. R. Chandran, Campus Director praised the initiatives taken up by the SAEINDIA SSMIET COLLEGIATE CLUB headed by the Faculty Advisor’s in forging strong relationship with the SAE INTERNATIONAL CLUB. He also commended the efforts of SAEINDIA SSMIET COLLEGIATE CLUB to make this venture successful.

Student Convention:

Student Convention 2014 was conducted for the first time in the history of SSMIET in a Grand Way. About 150 students participated in this Student convention. SAEINDIA SOUTHERN SECTION annual student convention was an opportunity for the students to showcase their skills and ideas to the industry and to the student community.


Factory visits were conducted for the benefit of student members and faculty members. Factory visits along with excursion were conducted and those are

The Inter and Intra college events has been organized by Automobile Department, SSM Institute of Engineering and Technology on February 2014, under SAE INDIA. The college events held for two days. It comprises of various events on both technical and non-technical events. Many Technical and non-technical events were conducted. Principal and Campus Director distributed the prizes to the winners of the events.



On August 2, 2014, SAEINDIA, the premier professional society and the largest affiliate of SAE International, USA, launched the Knowledge Round Table focusing on Teaching Learning process that took place at SSM Institute of Engineering and Technology, Dindigul. About 10 delegates from the global and domestic automotive industries participated in this event. The occasion was planned along with a one day TREK event on the next day at Thandikudi, which attracted 28 registrations from various Engineering Colleges across India.

The event began with the welcome address by Dr.R.Chandran, Campus Director, SSMIET who appreciated the SAE Activities as they provide an opportunity for Industry Expert and Academia to get weighed up on the latest technologies in the areas of Automobile Engineering. The event was inaugurated by R.Selvamani, Vice-President, R&D, WABCO INDIA LTD., Shanmugam, Dr. R. Chandran, Campus Director, SSMIET and Dr.K.Palanichamy, The Principal, SSMIET.


SAE Trek

It was a unique two day programme which is a blend of adventure and learning on 3rd August 2014 from SSMIET, Dindigul to Thandikudi Hills. They are held at scenic trekking locations which provide for great sense of adventure and bonding while providing some instructional learning pertaining to mobility engineering on the way. The students were challenged by the mentor to solve a problem within a limited time inspired by the natural ambiance.At the end of Trekking, Certificate was distributed for all the participants and volunteers by members of SAEINDIA, Southern Section and Faculty Advisors of SSMIET.


Student Convention (TIER 3)

On January 30 and 31 – 2015, Student Convention held at Kalasalingam University, Viruthunagar. Students of Automobile, Mechanical, Electronics and Communication Engineering departments around 60 members participated in various events conducted there in line with SAEINDIA.


SKIP (Student Knowledge Improvement Programme)

A SKIP program is an intensive session of two days which is anchored by a eminent subject matter expert. The sessions were handled by Dr. V. Ramamurti, Rtd IIT Professor, in the topic of “Application of Finite Element Analysis”on13 & 14 February 2015.



  1. Making and Running of Go-kart and MiniBike”

This program gives basic understanding of the fundamentals of Go kart and other related technologies required for making the go-kart.




  1. Calibration of Fuel Injection pump:

A special workshop was designed for the polytechnic students. The resource person for this program was Dr.R.Palanichamy, Principal SSMIET. Around 60 students participated in this workshop and get benefitted.

  1. Design and Development of Mini Bike:

This program provided hands on training on making and running of a mini bike. This program received big applauds from the participants.

  1. Workshop on Composite Materials:

As a part of the workshop, before the actual process of making composite, a lecture was given by IITM professors to the participants about the fundamentals of Composite materials. After the class, the participants are then provided the materials needed for making Composite structures.

  1. BAJA for Beginners:

This workshop is designed for the students who are interested in BAJA. We had a good gathering for this workshop. Around 45 students and 2 faculty advisors have participated and visited our BAJA lab facilities.


A National Level off road vehicle Design, Fabrication and Racing contest competition was conducted at NaTRiP-Pithampur, Madhya Pradesh, by SAEINDIA on Feb 16-23, 2016.Our Students from IV year and III year Automobile Engineering have participated in this prestigious event.

Awards & Achievements:

  • RIDE – 14 & 15

RIDE 14 – National Level Mini Bike Design, Fabrication and Racing contest competition was conducted at Karpagam college of Engineering, Coimbatore in association with SAEINDIA on 4th October 2014. Our Students from IV year Automobile Engineering have participated in this competition and won the 1st Prize and Overall Championship Award. Our students are the staying champions for the past two years.


Mr. S. Nasurudheen of final year Automobile engineering – SSMIET has been selected for “THE STUDENT SECTION AWARD – 2014”. He received award from honorable SAEINDIA president Dr. AravindBarathwaj



Our student Mr.J.JEEVAPANDIAN of Pre-final year of Automobile Engineering has been selected as SECTION member of SAEINDIA southern section.

SAEISS successfully conducted the Faculty Advisors forum on March 26th & 27th, 2016 at SSMIET,Dindigul.It was conducted to bring together Institute & Industry to understand needs and gaps of both sides.



SAEINDIA SSMIET Collegiate Club has organized a factory visit for the students and the faculty members from inter and intra colleges to TAFE on April 11th & 13th 2016.
